splash Beijing Public Transport Group

Beijing, the capital city of the People's Republic of China, can also be described as the capital city of bus transport in general. The Beijing bus network provides the primary mode of transport throughout Beijing and its environs, as the subway network is not yet extensive enough to serve all districts of the city. The local transport operator, the Beijing Public Transport Group, operates thousands of buses on a wide array of routes serving the sprawling city. A subsidary of the BPTC, Bafangda, operates many of the suburban routes and sightseeing buses, and these vehicles sport green and white liveries with "Bafangda" logos.

With the advent of the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing has embarked on a program to aggressively modernize its bus system. Thousands of old, dilapidated buses have recently given way to a new fleet of shiny, modern vehicles. The city has also introduced an electronic fare payment system, known as Yikatong and usable on both buses and subway trains.
