Los Angeles MTA (Rail):
East Los Angeles Gold Line ExtensionOn June 17, 2004, Metro broke ground on an extension of the Gold Line to serve key parts of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. This six-mile line is expected to be completed in late 2009, with six at-grade stations and two underground stations located primarily along 1
st and 3
rd streets.
Stations under construction (listed in order from west to east):
- Little Tokyo/Arts District
- Pico/Aliso
- Mariachi Plaza
- Soto
- Indiana
- Maravilla
- East LA Civic Center
- Atlantic
The following photos are of ongoing construction of the eastern end of the Gold Line extension, primarily located along 3
rd Street in East Los Angeles. All photos were taken on 2008.04.15. I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pictures, as they were taken through the windshield of my car at sunset.

- A general view of the construction site in the median of 3rd Street, looking east at the intersection of Rowan Avenue. The catenary poles and portions of the overhead wire have been installed.

- New catenary wire at 3rd Street and Gage Avenue.

- The completed right-of-way on 3rd Street just east of the 710 freeway. Note that the hill has partially been excavated to accomodate the right-of-way.

- Maravilla station. The concrete platform has largely been completed, and the canopies are in the process of being installed.

- The right-of-way east of Maravilla station, at the corner of 3rd Street and Arizona Avenue.

- A Spanish-language banner announcing the arrival of the Metro Gold Line, located at an intersection east of Maravilla.

- The East LA Civic Center station, located at the corner of Mednik Avenue. The decorative canopy appears to be largely in place.

- The right-of-way between East LA Civic Center and Atlantic stations. A diamond crossover track has been installed here to allow reversal of trains at Atlantic.

- Atlantic station, actually located closer to Woods Avenue than Atlantic Boulevard. Although the station platform and canopy appear to be complete, there are no catenary wires or poles quite yet. Beyond this station, tail tracks continue down the block to the corner of Atlantic Boulevard.
