Chicago Transit Authority (Rail):
2200-Series 'L' Cars
The CTA took delivery of 150 2200-series 'L' cars from The Budd Company in 1969 for service expansion on two new rapid transit extensions -- the lines operating in the Dan Ryan Expressway and the Kennedy Expressway medians, which are now part of the Red and Blue lines.
The 2200s are currently the oldest rolling stock operating in 'L' service today. As they are not wheelchair accessible due to the narrow fold-in 'blinker' doors, they must always run with a pair of newer cars in revenue service. The 2200s can be found in service on the Blue and Pink lines.
