Chicago Transit Authority (Rail):
2600-Series 'L' Cars
The 600 2600-series 'L' cars, one of the largest rolling stock orders for the CTA, was built by Budd/TransitAmerica and delivered to the CTA in the early 1980s. These cars are characterized by their smooth sides (somewhat similar to the 2400s) and redesigned front. Originally painted with black trim around their windows and red, white and blue stripes for the bicentennial celebrations, they have now been stripped of all exterior paint following a rehab in 2002.
The 2600s can be found in service on the Red and Blue lines, as well as on the new Pink Line where they run together with the 2200s.
