Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (Trackless Trolley):
Flyer E800
The Flyer E800s, originally built in 1976, were the original mainstay of the Cambridge trackless trolley routes. They were delivered with a driver-side door for use in the Harvard Square bus tunnel, and were some of the last surface transit vehicles to retain the original unmodified MBTA livery. With the arrival of the Neoplan AN-440LF ETB fleet in 2004, the Flyers were slowly retired or put into storage.
Currently, five Flyer E800s have been preserved at North Cambridge depot as a contingency fleet should more than six Neoplans be out of service. The Flyers may also be used for wire maintenance and training purposes as well.
