Orion V CNG

New York City Transit ordered a prototype Orion V CNG bus in 1994, numbered #317. This bus was the first CNG bus to be ordered by NYCT, and it can still be found running on lines out of Jackie Gleason Depot in Brooklyn. This bus is distinguishable from other Orion V buses by the large tank on its roof, necessary for storage of CNG fuel.

NYCT deemed the CNG pilot program a success and subsequently ordered more Orion V CNG buses in 1995. These buses are, for the most part, identical to 317. As of today, the entire Orion V CNG fleet is based out of Brooklyn's Jackie Gleason Depot.
