The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) operates public transportation, mostly consisting of buses, throughout the state of Rhode Island. The bus system, centered around the Kennedy Plaza terminal in downtown Providence, serves 38 out of 39 communities in Rhode Island.
In addition to its standard bus service, RIPTA operates a tourist trolley service in Providence (the Providence LINK) as well as a seasonal ferry connecting Providence with Newport.
